Letter to Congregation

March 2008

Spring is just around the corner, which means that Passover is only a few weeks away. The Spiritual Life Committee has planned a set of creative - and, we think, fun! - community activities for Passover (which begins Saturday evening April 19 and ends Sunday April 27 at sundown). The brochures in this mailing describe them all and explain what you need to do to participate. (It’s easy, mostly along the lines of showing up and eating....)

There will not be a CBH community seder this year. But as you’ll see in this mailing, we have organized a matching program so that people who would like to attend a seder can be paired with people who would like to welcome guests at their table.

Please plan on being part of CBH Passover 2008, our communal celebration of the holiday, from a Passover baking workshop on Sunday April 13 to Shabbat services on April 25 to the Yizkor memorial service and a festive end-of-Passover community brunch on Sunday April 27.

This year at CBH! Next year in Jerusalem!

April 13: Pesach Baking and Tasting

CBH Passover 2008 invites you to an afternoon of Pesach Baking and Tasting - Sunday, April 13, 1:30 to 4pm in the CBH Kitchen. And finally, over coffee and tea we'll sample the fruits of our labors. Everyone will leave with a packet of the recipes demonstrated.

To contribute a recipe to be shared with the group, email it to Cindy Wetter. Feel free to bring a Pesach treat to share during our tasting time.

RSVP to Pam Schachter by Friday, April 11, 2008. We'll bake some wonderful Passover dessert recipes, share Pesach baking tricks and tips...and even divulge some good sources for ready-made Passover treats.

April 19 - 20: Have a Seder? Share a Seder!

The first night of Passover is Saturday, April 19. Enjoy the mitzvah of welcoming the stranger to your home and get to know your fellow congregants by sharing your family's seder meal - either the first night or the second. Please download the form and send it to the CBH Office. If you would like to request an invitation to a seder, please contact Pam Schachter.

April 27: Pesach Family Brunch

CBH invites its families, singles, seniors and friends to brunch on Sunday, April 27th (last day of Pesach) at 11:30 am, (immediately following the Yizkor service, which begins at 10 a.m.)

We'll finish off the matzo, taste some family recipes and share the final meal of Pesach...as a community. (Everyone is welcome, whether attending Yizkor or not.) We'll sing! Play games! Do crafts!

Cost: $5 per person or $15 per family
Please bring a favorite family Kosher-for-Passover dessert.
