Meet Nancy Hersh, Our Religious School Director

Nancy Hersh, the Educational Director of our Religious School, has been with us since our beginning, first as one of our teachers, and since 1998 as our Educational Director. She has a B.A. degree in Communications, has trained extensively in Jewish education, and has many years of teaching and administrative experience. She is a founding member of RENA (Reconstructionist Educators of North America), and currently serves on the Youth and Education Commission of the Jewish Reconstructionist movement.
Along with the rabbi and the Religious School chairperson, she has developed many creative programs and a comprehensive curriculum for our students. Nancy believes that Jewish education should be a priority in every Jewish child's life and that children need a sense of who they are and what their heritage is.

It is important for children to feel a sense of security and belonging within the Jewish community. "The goal of our curriculum," she explains, "is for the children to have a positive experience while learning about Judaism, and becoming part of the Jewish community." We hope our children will have a lifelong connection to both Judaism and the Jewish people, and to understand the importance of community. Learning to read Hebrew and understanding how their role as Jews evolves within our society should be exciting and fun, and ultimately, instill a sense of pride in our children.
