Learning, Having Fun, & Making the World a Better Place

Lifelong Learning

LIFELONG LEARNING

STUDYING SACRED JEWISH TEXTS

Come explore the parts of the Bible they didn't teach you in Hebrew School! Journey into the contemporary applications of fundamental Jewish literature. Enjoy an intellectually stimulating and relaxed conversation about our deepest traditions.

No experience required; the text is provided in English.

Classes meet every Saturday 9 - 10AM and the second Wednesday of every month from 1 - 2:30PM.

"I thought the Game of Thrones was fun, but I've discovered it's nothing like the original... Lifelong Learning is packed with more mystery, murder, mayhem, passion, revenge and forgiveness that any soap opera that's ever been on TV."

SOCIAL JUSTICE

TAKING ACTION TO HELP OTHERS

Count the Omer
The Omer is a 7-week period from Passover until Shavuot where we count the days. Going from being enslaved to freedom and then on to holiness requires time and self-awareness.
CBH has assigned a poem to each day of the omer. We thought about the many aspects of Covenantal Community and have selected the following 7 themes: Hope, Kindness, Embracing differences, Vulnerability/Trust, Home/Community, Purpose and Liberation.

See this years poetry here.

Social Justice Shabbat
Every second Friday is Social Justice Shabbat, when an expert involved with social justice work speaks during the evening service about their efforts.

Anti-Racism Dialogues
CBH fosters a number of programs centered around real talk about racial prejudice including a Moth style storytelling in conjunction with the Fountain Baptist Church and an Anti-Racism Dialogue Circle sponsored by the Summit Interfaith Council.

Feeding the Hungry
CBH reaches out through programs like Bridges to provide bagged lunches and toiletry packs to those in need.  For further information contact Rob Kahwaty at [email protected].  And once a month we shop, cook and serve dinner to 10-15 people through SHIP (Summit Helping Its People). For more information contact Nancy Yacker at [email protected].

Caring About Our Environment
Together with the GreenFaith Council we collect plastic bags for the Trex company who uses them to make composite material. CBH has collected over one thousand pounds already and earned two beautiful benches for it.  For more information contact Helene Goldfarb at [email protected].

Helping Refugees
We tutor refugee children to help them get to grade level, and we're helping their parents prepare for their citizenship tests.  To get involved please contact Debbie Kaflowitz at [email protected].
